Delaware newspaper selects SmallTownPapers to create digital, online archive

SEATTLE, WA – January 3, 2006 – SmallTownPapers, Inc. is pleased to announce that The Cape Gazette in Lewes, Delaware has selected SmallTownPapers to provide digital preservation and online accessibility of its newspaper archives using the company’s “ArchiveInABox” system.  ArchiveInABox is an archive management system which allows newspaper publishers to easily and affordably move printed newspaper archives into a completely searchable digital format.

“For years we have been searching for a way to quickly and easily research our own historical archives,” said Dennis Forney, publisher of The Cape Gazette which serves Delaware’s Cape Henlopen region.  “ArchiveInABox enables our staff and the community to quickly access and search through our archive for information.  SmallTownPapers provides us with an effective tool for placing and maintaining searchable, quality versions of our archive online.”

SmallTownPapers will digitize the entire archive from the newspaper which publishes on Tuesdays and Fridays then place the searchable historical archives on a private label website.   “The Cape Gazette currently offers its subscribers a choice between traditional print and PDF delivery,” said Patrick Scanlon, Vice President of Corporate Business Development.  “Through the addition of the searchable historical archive, The Cape Gazette will enhance the service it provides to all of its subscribers and become an even more important information resource for the community it serves.”

Under terms of the agreement, The Cape Gazette also becomes a publishing partner in the SmallTownPapers distribution program which generates revenue for publishers.

With ArchiveInABox, a newspaper publisher simply places bound book, loose or microfilmed archives in a provided military grade shipping box.  SmallTownPapers handles everything for the publisher including shipping, logistics, scanning, post-processing, distribution, marketing, and revenue sharing.  . The online newspaper pages are fully searchable and appear exactly as they were printed.  For more information visit www.archiveinabox.com.
